Nursery

Welcome to Little School; offering a Greenfield approach to early childcare and education.

Greenfield Little School offers year-round care to all children aged 6 months to 4+ years, preparing them to transition into Reception in the September prior to their fifth birthday.

In Fledglings and Owls, our qualified nursery practitioners and experienced nursery nurses provide a stimulating and loving environment for babies and toddlers to explore.

Our pre-school classes are led by qualified Early Years Practitioners who follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. In these classes, we combine the convenience of a 50-week provision with the educational stimulation that many 3+ year olds are ready for.

Most ‘Little Schoolers’ transition into Reception at Greenfield School in the September before their fifth birthday, and take with them the skills and confidence they have gained under the care of our Little School staff.

Fledglings

Home to our youngest cohort of children at Greenfield, the Fledglings room is spacious and light, with plenty of room for differentiated activity. Our Fledglings enjoy an enriched timetable of activities with dedicated Early Years practitioners; including cookery, sensory play, and even noisy music sessions with a few instruments to shake. Whatever the weather, the little ones always have the opportunity to venture out into the great outdoors to challenge their physical abilities; whether it be in their purpose-built playground for practising their gross motor skills, or our shaded Forest School to stimulate their imagination in a natural woodland environment.

Owls

When children reach two years of age, they enter our Owls room, where play is always the order of the day. Communication, social skills and emotional development that the children built in Fledglings are focused on in Owls to ensure that they progress in all primary areas. The children enjoy role play, crafting sessions, singing together and developing real friendships with their peers. As well as specialist Dance and PE lessons, the Owls share a dynamic and exciting playground with the Early Years children.

Robins

The final year before they start “big school” in Reception, the Robins classrooms are modern and dynamic, where children learn through play. The Robins continue their Music, Dance and PE sessions to develop and advance their learning from their earlier years at Little School. The children continue to hone their fine motor skills in readiness for writing in Reception. The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum we deliver is ambitious and carefully sequenced to help the children build on their learning over time, laying the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life.

Our son adores his time at Little School; we could not be happier with the progress he is making. We feel confident in everyone that supports him, and feel that he is in a loving yet developing environment. There is a great open line of communication at all times.

Owls parents, January 2023

We are so delighted with how quickly our daughter settled with her Key Person and the other members of the Fledglings staff. The opportunities she gets to go to Forest School, soft play and see specialist teacher during the week is something we could never have imagined for our 1 year old. The communication from Little School proves to us that they know her personality and needs inside out and the care and attention provided by all reassures us that she is the best hands. We are so grateful to Little School for giving our daughter the best start!
