Our Education

Early Years (6 months-5 years)

The Early Years Education we deliver at Greenfield is ambitious and carefully sequenced to help the children build on their learning over time. We deliver The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old. Our pedagogy is a combination that is curated to fit the needs of the child.

Reception (4-5 years)

In Reception, we continue to follow the EYFS, but there is a greater focus on teaching the essential skills and knowledge in the specific areas of learning in preparation for Year 1.

Reception children receive specialist teaching in PE, music and dance and take full advantage of our sports halls, music rooms, instruments and dance studio.

More About Reception

Pre-Prep (5-7 years)

The Lower School education framework builds on the foundations put in place throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage, harnessing each child’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning to help them take great strides into Key Stage 1.

As the children move through Years 1 and 2 there is greater focus on English and Maths, whilst maintaining a very holistic approach that engages and inspires the young. Our Pre-Prep staff are exceptionally skilled at providing a broad and engaging provision for 5-7 year olds. This involves providing many opportunities for learning outside of the classroom, building skills that go beyond the purely academic.

The children are taught by their Form Teacher along with specialist teachers for music, French, PE, ICT, STEM, art, swimming and dance. They enjoy an exciting and stimulating curriculum including mathematics, English, science, topic, art carousel, PSHE and problem solving.

Prep (7-11 years)

At Greenfield, Prep comprises Middle and Upper School which covers Years 3 to 6. As they transition through these year groups, our children are given greater independence and equipped with the necessary resources to enable them to become active and engaged learners. Further broadening of the curriculum ensures that pupils are given ample opportunities to discover new talents, embrace change and challenge, as well as consolidate and utilise their knowledge. Even more specialist teaching is introduced to ensure that the children are receiving the very best delivery and instruction across many areas of the curriculum. The introduction of residential trips from Year 3 onwards helps us to inspire personal and emotional growth and prepare children for the many exciting opportunities that senior school will hold.

Each subject builds on a foundation of knowledge, developing skills to equip children to be able to problem-solve, analyse, hypothesise and evaluate; thereby establishing important thinking and employability skills which become habitual in Greenfield children.
