Mr Matt Robinson Appointed New Head

Posted: 4th July 2023

The Governors at Greenfield School have appointed Mr. Matt Robinson, current head at City of London Freemen’s Junior School, to succeed Mrs. Botting.

The Greenfield community is delighted to share the news that Mr. Matt Robinson will be succeeding Mrs. Botting as Head, commencing from September 2024.

Mr. Robinson has had a lengthy career in education where he has enjoyed success at many excellent independent schools including Cranleigh Preparatory School and later King’s College Junior School in Wimbledon, where he was Head of English. From there he became Deputy Head at Junior King’s School in Canterbury before accepting Headship at City of London Freemen’s Junior School in September 2014.

During his time at Freemen’s, Mr. Robinson has been passionate about ensuring that intellectual rigour is met with impressive extra-curricular provision, breadth of study and a strong pastoral offering. He is committed to ensuring that advancements in technology and AI are quickly and safely infiltrated into prep education. He is also a life-long fan of cricket and has enjoyed coaching his children’s teams over the years.

Mrs. Botting’s planned retirement from Headship has allowed for a calm and considered recruitment process, spearheaded by Odgers Berndsten, enabling an excellent lead-in and handover for Mr. Robinson. Chair of Governor’s for Greenfield, Mrs Janet Day, described the recruitment process as “detailed and comprehensive”, resulting in “a strong field of candidates”. She said the decision to appoint Mr. Robinson was “unanimous”.

Mr. Robinson will join Greenfield School direct from his current Headship, where, in the school’s latest Good Schools Guide review, he is reported to be “flamboyant, lovely” and “a massive sell for the school”.

Speaking of her successor, Mrs. Botting has said she is “absolutely delighted” and that she looks forward to working with Mr. Robinson over the course of the coming academic year to ensure that their handover is as comprehensive as possible.

Everyone in the Greenfield community can look forward to many opportunities to meet Mr. Robinson over the course of the next academic year, ahead of his official start date in September 2024.
