21st March 2025
Dear Greenfield Families,
You’ll be pleased to hear that between Tuesday morning and Thursday night the school’s solar panels yielded 147.6 kWh as the sun showed its face! It certainly heartened the Future World Team who held a busy meeting in the Courtyard yesterday, during which food waste was one of the many topics under discussion. They will lead us into Monday’s Earth Hour/ Afternoon. From form time until the end of Monday all lights, computers, interactive whiteboards and electrical items will be turned off (except any used for crucial school functions!). If it’s sunny too, we may generate a surplus.
The courtyard was the starting point for the splendid Scholars’ event on Tuesday at which many Yr 6 children demonstrated to their families and others their talents and hard work in achieving awards from their Senior schools.
Talent and dedication have been in much evidence every morning this week in the “Greenfield’s Got Talent” heats, which have ensured a real buzz of anticipation around the school every morning. Families of finalists have now been contacted by Mr Gudgeon today and we look forward to welcoming you into school next Friday for the GGT Final 2025. That combined with Neurodiversity week has led to a purposeful discussion of our differences and our uniqueness.
Next week has a number of highlights to which we are looking forward with bated breath, not least the Dragons’ Den fayre on Monday morning. If you’re happy to support the Yr 6 endeavours, please send your children into school with a few pounds and/or come yourself, and know that many more charities will be supported.
Charity drew many of us into the centre of Woking last Sunday for the Surrey Half Marathon jamboree. Mr Upcott ran the full half, three other colleagues ran the 5k, and hordes of Greenfield children (and some intrepid parents) ran the 2k in that glorious sun. I hope you have seen some photos on the socials of that really glorious community event, at which we have raised well over £2000 for various good causes. The ongoing Swimathon efforts, again led by the children (here), have raised over £500. The main event is Tuesday afternoon at Eastwood pool. We’ll keep you posted.
There was a degree of competition at last Friday’s FRoGS’ curry and quiz community event, and some highly knowledgeable people attended – the questions were hard, the curry was filling and camaraderie was enjoyed by all. Huge thanks go to the organisers of that event, and the disco that will end next week and the term. I trust that there will be no competitive dancing!
Have a super weekend, and, if you need any more discussion about smartphones, please consider watching, if you have Netflix, the fictional “Adolescence”.
Yours,
M.W. Robinson – Head
