24th January 2025
Dear Greenfield Families,
Does January seem longer than usual to you? I think we’re ready for February and beyond, for more daylight, more warmth and the exciting events planned, not least the Woking Fun Run. I have been reliably told that many families will be in attendance, with a few adults considering the actual half-marathon! I will be there but have been told in no uncertain terms by my physio that I am not allowed to run. ☹
Mr Gudgeon ran a splendid assembly yesterday on the topic of working together respectfully for everyone’s benefit and we handed out a few certificates and a trophy this week too. Seeing as the Oxford University Press announced that “kindness” is the Children’s Word of the Year, the messaging was extremely timely. It seems that the world is catching up with the Greenfield Way!
(Incidentally the slang word chosen was “slay” – I have less to say on that.)
I didn’t hear any of our children refer to the FroGS hot chocolate this afternoon as “slay”! Amazing was probably the most common description. It was also the word regularly used in the context of the Burns lunch yesterday, haggis, neeps and tatties (and sausages)! I wonder how many of you will “Address the Haggis” this weekend or perhaps sample a traditional Scottish drink.
It was lovely to see parents of some of our smallest pupils in on three afternoons this week for ‘Stay and play’ sessions – Robins on Monday and Tuesday, Owls on Wednesday. Lots of smiles, giggles and hugs were enjoyed.
Thank you to those that have let us know you’re coming to the Papaya talk on 11th … I’ve been thinking about the best and most engaging alternatives for screen time for your children – you know my position on board games and tree climbing! If the weather is grim (as is forecast) perhaps you and your children will join the world’s largest garden wildlife survey this weekend. The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch plays an important role in understanding our country’s bird population.
Furthermore, you might find this list amusing, helpful and inspiring. And if any of the activities are described as “slay” you must let me know.
Have a super weekend, with some lovely family outdoor time … kite/s flying in the wind?
Yours,
M. W. Robinson – Head
